Designing the auxillary (low voltage) electronics for Manchester Stinger Motorsport's 1st EV
During the 23/24 season I was tasked with leading the design for the auxiliary electronics for Manchester Stinger Motorsports’ first electric vehicle. As all of the team’s legacy designs and inherited knowledge were primarily focused on the petrol car we were essentially starting from scratch. We were competing as a concept class and my main priority when it came to the electronics was to set the groundworks for future teams.
Project Highlights:
- Power budget accounting for LV loads (eg. fans, pumps, lights, controllers) to estimate battery capacity requirements
- PCB design and prototyping for various safety electronics across the car
- Configuring motor torque request commands over CAN from acceleration pedal sensors to motor controller
- Nodal digital data aquisistion architecture to incorporate sensors from across the car
- Mapping out wiring loom across the car
