Making the Wesbite

Motivation

I’ve been meaning to create a digital portfolio of my projects since my second year in uni, but it has always been quite low down on the list of priorities. I also found myself reluctant to share projects that were either partially completed or done in a way I would have done differently in retrospect. Having seen a few websites made by other students and engineers sharing their projects and journey, I decided it’s about time for me to join the space.

There are a few main reasons I’ve decided to make this now. As the years have gone by I’ve started to appreiciate the importance of articulating my thoughts in writing for them to fully develop into justifiable design decisions. I also have come to recognise how important it is for me to maintain momentum even when the outcomes are not to the standards I expect, hopefully commiting to regularly posting on here will provide some much needed consistency. And finally, in an age where the content we generate and consume is increasingly AI, I wanted an outlet that authentically reflects my own thoughts, ideas and style.

astro-erudite

There are countless templates for blogs available to choose from. My main criteria was for it to be simple, clean and easy to modify. Many of the popular ones I felt were cluttered, sloppy or bloated with unnessiary features. Developing one from scratch was also an option but not really where I want to place my free time.

When I stumbled across astro-erudite it ticked all the boxes I had in mind. The default design is minimal and elegant, the format is easy to modify and all posts are written in markdown. I spent a weekend tweaking the format, populating a few posts and adding some personal touches. I’m sure there is far more customisation possible with this framework, and maybe in the future I’ll do a deeper dive but it does the job for now!
